About

I have never written a blog before, but am giving it a shot now because 1.) I have the time now since I quit teaching, and have always wanted to; 2.) I feel I have things to say and ideas to share; and 3.) I want to try writing as a way to transition into the next step of my life. If anything, some of it will at least be entertaining.

After spending countless hours trying to come up with a name, which was way harder than I thought it would be, I decided on “Live and Learn Journey.” A journey is exactly what I am on. Like everyone, I have unique experiences, choices, mistakes, stories, etc. that have lead me to where I am today. I will most likely be using my experiences in education as the basis for many posts. I feel that I may not be able to “move on” from teaching without first purging. There may be everything from strategies, lessons, ideas, awesome moments in the classroom, “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days,” and just venting. I will openly discuss my opinions and experiences in education, and will be open to discussions and comments. I will be writing for me and hope to never offend anyone, as that is not my intention. Maybe a story may be just what someone needs that day to help them survive it. Maybe I’ll be the push for someone to go out and find their true happy that may not be in the classroom anymore. Maybe I’ll just be here for support because someone may be in the same transition as me. Hopefully it will help someone. That is if anyone actually reads it.

So, who am I? I am from a map-dot town in northern Illinois. My husband and I travel place to place for his work, but most often we stay in the Southwestern region. I have come to love and appreciate the desert, which has been a big transition from the Midwest. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the heat though, even if it is a “dry heat.” We live in our RV full-time so we can move from job to job. I am very excited because we just upgraded to a brand new, 40 foot, 5th wheel. It is a toy hauler so we are able to move the motorcycle easier. I am a teacher, and if we were in a place long enough I was able to teach. However, after just finishing my 5th official year, I gave it up. Well, I gave up the formal classroom setting. I don’t think I could ever get out of education completely. It is my passion, and I don’t know what else I would do. I am exploring different avenues to work remotely, and would love to stay in the education field and somehow be able to help and support teachers. Giving up teaching has been a difficult and heart-breaking decision that I am working through with this blog. I’m hoping I find some clarity through this process.

A lot of my posts will have to do with education and teaching because I am passionate about it and want to share my experiences, ideas, strategies, etc. I will also most likely be posting about RV life, travel, marriage, projects, and anything else that meets my fancy. I am excited to start this journey and see where it leads!
