Today started with reviewing the Lord’s covenant with David, where he was told through Nathan the prophet that he would not be the one to build a house for the Lord to dwell in. The Lord had gone from tent to tent in all the places he had moved with Israel until then and had been fine.
Until that point, the Lord had still not directed any of his judges, whom he commanded to judge over his people, to build him a house of cedar, nor had the Lord questioned them.
The Lord reminded David that he had taken him from the pasture from following the sheep, to be prince over his people, Israel. The Lord was with him in all that he did, and had cut off all his enemies from before him, and would make his name like one of the great ones of the earth.
The Lord would appoint a place for his people Israel so they could dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. Moreover, it was then declared to David that the Lord would build him a house. And when David’s days were done, the Lord would raise up his offspring after him, and one of his sons would establish a kingdom.
He would build a house for the Lord, and the Lord would establish his throne forever. The Lord would be to him like a father, and he would be like a son. The Lord would not take his steadfast love from him, and would confirm him in the Lord’s house and kingdom forever, and his throne would be established forever.
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed.
After this, it went to review all the enemies David defeated, and his administration discussing his servants. It also reviewed when the Ammonites disgraced David’s men and when the Ammonites and Syrians were defeated. All of this was previously studied, can can be found at Day 98, 2 Samuel 8-11.
