Day 130, 1 Chronicles 20-23

Today started out with reviewing the capture of Rabbah, which was previously studied on Day 99, 2 Samuel 12-13.

Then it went on to discuss how the Philistine giants were killed. There was war going on with the Philistines at Gezer, and when they struck down Sippi, one of the descendants of the giants, the Philistines were subdued.

There was war again with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of Jair struck down Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite. Then there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot; twenty-four in number, and he was descended from giants.

When he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him down. These were descended from the giants in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

It then discussed David’s census and how it brought pestilence to the land. Now the angel of the Lord had commanded Gad to say to David that he should go up and raise an altar to the Lord. So he did all that he was commanded and built an altar for the Lord. All of this was studied on
Day 104, 2 Samuel 23-24.

Before David died, he prepared for the building of the temple because his son Solomon was still too young and inexperienced. He set stonecutters to prepare dressed stones for building the house of God, and provided great quantities of iron for nails, as well as bronze in quantities beyond weighing. He also prepared cedar timbers without number.

Then he called for Solomon his son and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel. David’s conversation with Solomon and the instructions he had given him were all discussed on Day 105, 1 Kings 1-3.

Today ended with David organizing the Levites. After he had made Solomon king over Israel, he assembled all the leaders of Israel and the priests and the Levites. He organized all the people in divisions and charged them with what work they would do.

It listed out names in order of appearance per family and their descendants; and their work and duties.
