Day 30, Exodus 36-38

Today will be a quick post because it was quite literally a repeat of days 26 and 28.

One thing worth mentioning, is that they did have plenty of contributions from the people. So much so, that they were told they did not need to bring anymore. I thought this was a good thing, because the Lord made it very clear that the people should donate their time and items to the sanctuary, and they would not be forced to. This should have made God pretty happy that the people pulled together and contributed so much.

“The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution of the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.”

-Exodus 36:5-7

It started off with the construction of the Tabernacle. All of the specific directions and dimensions were already given in chapter 26. It said how Bezalel and Oholiab were sort of in charge of the construction as they were appointed by God to have the skills.

Then it went on to discuss making the Ark which was explained in detail in chapter 25.

Most of the rest of the reading was repetitive from day 28, when it discussed in detail the making of the Table, Lampstand, Altar of Incense, Altar of Burnt Offering, Bronze Basin, and the Court.

The last part of today’s reading explained the materials that made up the Tabernacle. It explained how much gold, silver, and bronze was used in units of shekels and talents.

“100 talents and 1, 775 shekels. Since there are 3,000 shekels in a talent, 100 talents equals 300,000 shekels, which, when added to the 1,775 shekels, gives a grand total of 301,775–half a shekel for each 603,550 men of military age.”
