“The Scarlet Thread” by Francine Rivers was the second book of hers I read. After reading, and falling in love with her book “Redeeming Love” I was excited to read another book of hers. I was not disappointed!
This book was absolutely wonderful. It follows the lives of two women, centuries apart, and goes back and forth between today’s world and life in the 1800s. Each woman, “a bold and determined modern woman” and “a young pioneer on the Oregon Trail,” had similar situations that united them through an old worn out journal.
They were both battling with their worlds being turned upside down, their marriages, and the hardships of life; questioning God every chance they had. It wasn’t until they were faced with tragedy and betrayal that they could finally turn to “the One who loves them unconditionally.”
I would recommend this book to anyone who loved Francine Rivers book “Redeeming Love” or enjoys a historical setting. The setting alone was enough to make me want to dive into this book, as I find pioneer life, the Oregon Trail, and the 1800s very interesting. The way the author wrote about the Oregon Trail really makes the reader picture what it could’ve been like.
Maybe that’s because Francine Rivers and three of her friends actually traveled the Oregon Trail. That must’ve been such an adventure that I myself can’t wait to take some day!
The friends spent over 5,000 miles together taking in everything this country had to offer on the route. With all of the historical landmarks, museums, and collecting as much information as they could; it really helped bring this story to life.
There are also discussion questions listed at the end of the book to help you delve a little deeper. It is set up perfectly to discuss with a book group and others reading the book.
The two books I’ve read now by Francine Rivers, have me dying to read another! In the meantime, I’ve started reading “Redeeming Love” for the second time.
